So Jake's second birthday is a mere 4 months away and I have been going back and forth on what the theme should be. I thought about a superhero party, but I think he will enjoy it a lot more when he is three. I almost settled on a farm or western type theme, but that almost has to be outside and at the end of July, it tends to be scorching hot here.
So we just celebrated Dr. Seuss' birthday recently and the Lorax just started playing. I think I want to try my own spin on a Dr. Seuss theme. I am picturing the house decorated with clusters of truffula trees! This theme also allows me to reuse some of the supplies from our last two birthday celebrations - the bright colors from Sarah's rainbow party and the red and white stripes and the yellow and turquoise from Jake's circus party will all work wonderfully for Dr. Seuss!
For my first project, I wanted to do something from the Lorax. Bakerella had the cutest Lorax cake pops, but I just can't seem to make cake pops work. I saw some really cute Nutter Butter cookies on Pinterest with eyes and a frosting moustache, but unfortunately, they pinned it from a Google search, so I can't find the original blog (I HATE THAT!). Sooooooooo... what if I combine the two ideas?!? What if I use Nutter Butters as my base - but put it on a stick, dip it and decorate it like a cake pop? Well, you would get this:
Is this little guy stinkin' adorable or what?!? But let me tell you, these are temperamental little buggers! I need to work a bit on my technique before I post the tutorial. Until then, here is some more Lorax love:
And feel free to check out my Dr. Seuss theme idea board on Pinterest: http://pinterest.com/dawnzer/seuss-ical-celebration
